The concept for Movers and Makers emerged after a group of Knightstown community members visited a makers market in Muskegon, Michigan. The experience sparked conversations about how a similar concept could be adapted to fit the scale and character of Knightstown.

Rather than replicating what they saw, local leaders envisioned something uniquely their own—an opportunity to support artisans, activate downtown space, and create a new attraction for residents and visitors alike.

A Creative Approach to Placemaking

The result is a colorful and welcoming destination in the heart of downtown Knightstown.

What was once a vacant parking lot is now home to five cottage-style retail spaces occupied by local artisans and makers. Each cottage serves as an independent storefront, allowing vendors to manage their own inventory, set their own hours, and build their businesses while benefiting from a shared destination.

Operating seasonally from May through December, Movers and Makers brings consistent activity and energy to downtown, encouraging visitors to explore the community and support local businesses.

At its core, Movers and Makers was created to provide opportunities for local makers and small business owners.

Since opening in 2023, the market has welcomed artisans offering a variety of products, including handcrafted décor, specialty foods, apparel, artwork, and refurbished furniture.
