Local art events for all ages this summer

June 2, 2021

Ready to enjoy the nice weather? Come take a stroll on the Brink of Summer Artswalk on Thursday, June 3rd from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. The First Thursday event is located in downtown Muncie where visitors have the chance to both watch and support local artists. Food, beverages, and art are available at the event and there is no cost for admission. Visitors can find parking along the street or in any of the public parking lots or garages.

During the Brink of Summer Artswalk, guests can participate in Flower Hour  – an event where visitors can create their own one-of-a-kind bouquet. Tickets for this event can be purchased online at the Downtown Muncie website or from a participating sponsor, DWTN development board, or staff member. Flower Hour is presented by Normandy Flowers Shop, Inc., Foister’s Flowers and Gifts, Dandelions Flowers and Gifts, and Miller’s House of Flowers. Money raised from the event will support future event programming and development opportunities.

In search of a summer date night idea? We’ve got you covered with the Summer Movie Nights hosted by the A Town Center – the community arts center. The movies will premiere on Saturday, June 26th with not one but two films: Waiting for Guffman directed by Christopher Guest and Pecker directed and written by John Waters. These movies will be cast behind the center. Guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets. Snacks will be available for purchase at the venue but guests can bring their own if they prefer. The movies will begin at sundown and viewer discretion is advised as most of the films are for mature audiences.

The Anderson Art Museum has fun for the whole family with their story walk in downtown Anderson from May 19th to June 23rd. The story walk will feature artwork from the book A Brush with Nature, written by Laurie Lunsford in partnership with Red-tail Land Conservancy and illustrated by The Union City Plein Artists. Visitors wanting to walk along will be instructed to find all the story cards and lettered paint brushes located in displays along downtown businesses. Maps for the art walk can be picked up at the Anderson Art Museum.

Join the Art Association of Henry County for the 2021 Member’s Spring Show – an exhibit featuring a variety of local artwork. The event is open from May 18th through June 11th and is located at 218 S 15th St in New Castle.

Bring your family and friends to join the city of Richmond for their Depot District Art Walk. This First Friday event features artists in collaboration with local businesses and restaurants. Artists such as jewelers, potters, fiber artists, a metalsmith, and a spray paint artist will have demonstrations for visitors. Local artists Beth Miles, Barbara Easely, Rick Wenning and Michele Ray will be at the event.  Businesses in the Depot District, such as Ullery’s Homemade Ice Cream, Roscoe’s Coffee Bar and Tap Room, Paige’s Natural Alternatives, HALO Specialty Gifts, Paint the Towne, The Scarlet Meraki, The Firehouse BBQ and Blues, The Cordial Cork, New Boswell Brewery & Tap Room, and Margaret’s Vintage + Upcycle Shop, will offer deals and discounts during the art walk. Discounts will only be valid on June 4th, July 2nd and August 6th. The event takes place on Friday, June 4th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and is free so be sure to stop by!
